Bang for your buck

The Logia 5-in-1 Weather station LOWSC510SWB is actually a really great little station and at a great price bracket too. For most home users it’s perfectly adequate and if looked after will last for several years, but if left to rot and decay without any maintenance their lifespan is very quickly reduced.

I have one of these which lasted well over 3 years, it still works, just the wind cups and wind vane got destroyed in a hailstorm which leads me onto the next subject.

No spares from Logia

Offering spares to your customers is SUCH A SIMPLE THING but Logia simply does not do this nor do they respond to support requests. How difficult is it to make spare wind cups and wind vanes available? Not difficult at all, most other manufacturers do this. Their web site simply has NO SPARES available and neither can you find them anywhere. It’s sad because having spare parts would ensure these stations could go for many years.

So we make a plan

So, with a lack of spares or rather non-existence of them. I managed to fit new wind cups and a wind vane from a different weather station altogether. the wind vane was easy peasy. The wind cups required some work as it involves a small, rare-earth magnet inside the wind cups that triggers the reed switch sensor for the wind speed. So, with a bit of power fix, some super glue and a rare earth magnet it was achieved and back in working order. The whole fix only took me about 30 minutes.

What about other parts?

Well this is where is gets tricky but all things are achievable if you try.

Broken rainfall sensor

So, a friend sent me one to look at, his unit stopped recording rainfall. I tested it and the little reed switch had failed. So I got hold of some reed switches from other weather stations, soldered the old one out, soldered the new one in and VOILA …. working rain gauge.

Broken Thermo-Hygro sensor

Once again, I had to resort to using a thermo-hygro sensor from a different weather station. The Logia one has 4 wires and the Ambient one does too, so a bit of soldering and fiddling and voila, working temperature & humidity.

So, with a bit of trying most if not all parts can be fixed but it still sucks that Logia has such a crap attitude because their weather stations are actually really good performers. So come on LOGIA get your act together and make spares available.

Logia Weather Stations Unreliability
